For people whose first language is not English, and who are not familiar with how the UK health system (the National Health Service (NHS))  works (such as individuals seeking asylum who are newly arrived to the UK), some fact sheets have been produced by the NHS / the Department of Health (DoH). These explain a little bit more about what the NHS is, explain procedures such as what a General Practitioner (GP (a Doctor)) is and their function as gatekeepers to the health service in general, how to register with a GP and how to access emergency services. These fact sheets are available in the below languages. These can be accessed through the DoH archives by clicking on the name of the language you require.

Special care has been taken to ensure that the information within these leaflets is given in clear language – the content and style has been extensively tested with user groups.
