Bedworth Health Centre is extremely proud to be an Armed Forces Veteran Friendly accredited practice and we are committed to caring for those injured in service, in a way which reflects the Nation’s moral obligation to do so.
When service people leave the armed forces, their healthcare is the responsibility of the NHS and the UK government has pledged to support veterans with priority NHS care. It is highly important that these people register with a GP on discharge and to inform the practice they are registering with, that they have served. This will ensure that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) can transfer your full medical records to the GP.
If you have served in the armed forces and are registered with this practice, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can make the appropriate notes in your records. This will mean we can ensure that any referrals are noted with your status as a military veteran as this may entitle you to priority access should this be appropriate (for conditions that are ‘service-related’). Please be advised that this is always subject to ‘clinical need’ and there may be occasions where a non-veteran would take priority over you, due to their ‘clinical need’. By having it noted that you are a veteran in your records will also enable you to benefit from veteran-specific services.
A wide range of information about the NHS services on offer to veterans can be accessed through the NHS Choices website.
The Veterans UK section of the ‘gov.uk’ website is a further valuable resource.
