PREGNANCY AND MATERNITY SERVICES

Our Antenatal and Maternity provisions are delivered in conjunction with St. Michael’s Children’s Centre*.

ANTENATAL

If you believe that you may be pregnant, please take a home pregnancy test to confirm this. The advances in the equipment and technology behind these home testing kits mean that the Doctors are now confident to assume you are pregnant if the home pregnancy test says that you are. If the test confirms you are pregnant, please make an appointment with our Community Midwife, Lara Kinlock, as you would do with any other routine appointment – you do not need to see a Doctor first. Lara is based at St. Michael’s, however your first appointment (the ‘Booking Clinic’) will take place here at the surgery. At this appointment, Lara will discuss all other aspects of your antenatal care, address any concerns you may have and will issue you with your pregnancy notes – this is a confidential plan of care for you to follow through your pregnancy, along with leaflets and literature to advise on your care throughout your pregnancy and maternity period.

The remainder of your antenatal care will take place at St. Michaels, which Lara will discuss with you. Our Doctors generally provide a supporting role to you throughout your pregnancy and post natal period, as your care is predominantly Midwife-led. However, your Doctor will still be available for consultation during your antenatal care should you or the Community Midwife consider this necessary and or should any acute problems occur. The Doctor can also refer you onto the hospital, should they consider this appropriate, at any point during the course of your pregnancy or maternity.

MATERNITY

The Community Midwife will then see you at home, following the birth of your baby (normally on the day after you return from hospital, day five after your return and day 10). The Community Midwife will weigh your child and liaise with the hospital following your discharge.

During your home visit following the birth of your baby, the Community Midwife will advise you to book into our Mother and Baby Clinic for a post natal examination, six weeks following delivery. Please note, the Community Midwife does not book these appointments, they must be booked by yourself. We run dedicated clinics, led by Drs. Godfrey, Hickson and Zurub, on the following dates and times:

Monday : 3.00pm to 3.30pm : Drs. Godfrey and Hickson
Tuesday : 2.00pm – 3.30pm : Dr. Zurub

Drs. Godfrey and Hickson will see you and your child during a 30 minute appointment – normally 10 minutes is allocated for your baby and 20 minutes for you.

Dr. Zurub will also see you and your child during a 30 minute appointment – however this is split evenly, 15 minutes for your baby and 15 minutes for you.
